APFC is dedicated to confronting domestic violence head-on and empowering those affected to build safer, more hopeful futures. Your support is more than just a donation; it’s a direct investment in the safety, well-being, and resilience of New Jersey communities.
We look to the community for support as we face a devastating 43% cut in VOCA funding in the coming year. VOCA grants are supported by fines from federal convictions—not taxpayer dollars, and they have historically supported vital prevention, education, and early intervention programs that reduce community violence. Research shows that early prevention efforts save lives and reduce long-term social and financial costs. Prevention is not optional, it’s essential to end the generational cycle of abuse.
Here’s why your contribution is so vital:
- Direct and Positive Impact on Domestic Violence Victims: The core of our mission is to make a tangible, positive difference in the lives of domestic violence victims. We provide essential knowledge and pathways to support, helping individuals navigate incredibly difficult circumstances and find their path to safety and freedom.
- Empowering First Responders: The moments immediately following a domestic violence incident are critical. We equip First Responders – including police and victim advocates – with specialized training that many currently lack. Our workshops ensure that they can respond to these sensitive situations with heightened effectiveness and profound compassion, making a difference from the very first interaction.
- Guiding Victims to Essential Services: While APFC does not operate a shelter, we are a crucial link in the chain of support. We collaborate with hundreds of community service organizations, advising them on the most effective ways to respond to domestic violence calls and, critically, how to connect victims with the essential services they urgently need, such as safe housing, legal assistance, and counseling.
- Protecting Our Youth from Abuse: The silent victims of domestic violence are often our children and teenagers. We empower school counselors and other school staff to better assist victims of teen dating abuse and provide critical support for children exposed to domestic violence in their homes. By educating those on the front lines in our schools, we help break cycles of abuse and foster environments where young people can thrive safely.
- Enhancing Social Workers’ Impact: Social workers play an indispensable role in supporting families in crisis. We provide valuable presentations and resources that enable social workers to more effectively help victims of domestic violence, ensuring they possess the specialized knowledge to address the unique complexities of these cases with greater insight and impact.
- Lighting the Path to Freedom: For many victims, the journey to freedom and safety begins with their first interaction with a friend, teacher, police officer, health care provider, or social service organization. By ensuring they have practical victim-impact strategies, we help lay a foundation of trust and support, setting victims on a more secure and empowering path toward healing and independence.
- Broad Reach, Deep Impact: 4,000 Lives Touched Annually here in New Jersey! Last year alone, A Partnership for Change provided vital training and resources that directly benefited 4,000 First Responders and teens. Your support enables us to continue this significant outreach, creating a ripple effect of awareness, safety, and empowerment throughout NJ communities.
